Caecilians are some of the least-known amphibians on Earth. These fascinating creatures might look like snakes or worms, but they’re actually amphibians, closely related to frogs and salamanders. Found in tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Central and South America, caecilians spend most of their lives underground, making them masters of the secretive life.
With their smooth, slimy skin, these burrowing animals have no legs, but they make up for it with powerful, muscular bodies that help them wriggle through the soil. Despite their appearance, caecilians actually have tiny, hidden eyes and can detect vibrations in the ground with specialized sensory organs.
