The anaconda is one of the most powerful and mysterious snakes on the planet. Found in the swamps and rivers of South America—especially the Amazon—the green anaconda holds the title for being the heaviest snake in the world and one of the longest, reaching over 30 feet in length!

Unlike venomous snakes, anacondas are constrictors. That means they wrap around their prey and squeeze until it can’t breathe, then swallow it whole. Their diet can include fish, birds, caimans, and even wild pigs!

Fun Fact

Anacondas can stay underwater for up to 10 minutes without surfacing! Their eyes and nostrils are on top of their heads, letting them silently stalk prey while almost completely submerged—stealth mode: activated.
